Call for Papers
The economies of the Balkans and Eastern European countries have undergone almost two decades of significant change, affecting their characteristics and their adaptation to the new economic environment. This course has brought significant difficulties to the fore, highlighted the many problems that the countries of the region face, and led to differences between states regarding their growth patterns and the enhancement of their economies. Thus, this conference aims to: engage in a comprehensive discussion and assessment of the economic policies implemented over the past two decades; address prospective challenges; and investigate sector-specific economy policies that are considered necessary so that these countries can be integrated and can attain as much benefit as possible. Moreover, continuous uncertainty, a lack of sustained stability, the disruptive effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, geopolitical upheavals, and energy crises present formidable challenges for researchers, policymakers, and both the private and public sectors. These disruptions have caused economic instability; hence, addressing them is paramount. Furthermore, this conference calls upon the research community to confront these challenges to foster resilient, sustainable, digitally driven, and globally competitive economic transitions beyond efficiency and productivity, and to reinforce the roles and contributions of human beings.
In line with prevailing global trends – as outlined in the 2050 long-term strategy, the Agenda of Sustainable Development Goals for 2030, and the new European Innovation Agenda – this year’s conference will focus on addressing the following key themes :
- Sustainability and Global Competitiveness;
- Resilience and Economic Security;
- Digital Disruptions.
The conference has a specific interest in the developing economies in the Mediterranean, Balkans, and Eastern Europe and in studies investigating the state of the debate around corporate governance in less-developed capital market states.
Papers accepted for the conference must relate to the broader field of sustainable economic regional development, specifically focusing on advancing Resilience, Sustainability, and Social Progress. In general, papers to be accepted for the conference must relate to the broader domain of economic science and health management, with particular reference to research and experiences that could be interesting for the Balkans and Eastern Europe regions.
EBEEC Special Interest Working Groups
Special Interest Working Groups (SIG) serve as a forum for dialogue and interaction around designated issue areas. Working Group participants discuss the issues of their group theme during the conference dates on site and remotely on specific dates during the year. The idea is to create an extended and focused dialogue between group colleagues. This form of engagement may stimulate new research questions and project ideas among other benefits. Each Special Interest Working Group works under the responsibility of a contact person who is the leader of the group. Each contact person gathers and coordinates the participants of the group. Special Interest Working Groups are open to all EBEEC participants. You are kindly invited to contact the responsible person for the group(s) you are interested to participate.
